Graduation Requirements
PROMOTION POLICY AND GRADUATION
REQUIREMENTS
The State Board of Education has approved six diploma options
for students: three diplomas and three endorsements.
These options are the Alabama High School Diploma, the Alabama High
School Diploma with Advanced Academic Endorsement, the Alabama High
School Diploma with Career/Technical Endorsement, the Alabama High
School Diploma with Advanced Career/Technical Endorsement, and the
Alternate Adult High School Diploma.
Effective for students who begin the ninth grade in the 1998-99
school year, in order to earn an Alabama High School Diploma,
students must successfully complete the ASHGE and earn the
requirements for the Alabama High School Diploma or the Alabama
High School Diploma with Advanced Academic Endorsement.
Students in Dallas County must meet the following requirements.

A total of 28 units must be eared for graduation. Seven
credits must be earned for advancement to a 10th grade
homeroom. Fourteen units must be earned to advance to an 11th
grade homeroom. Twenty units must be earned to advance to a
12th grade homeroom. Electives may vary due to available
personnel. Students may take any courses in the curriculum
for which they meet the prerequisites. Students who pass the
computer literacy test in the 8th grade are not required to
complete a computer course. English and math courses must be
taken insequence.
